Blog Post 3 - Atonement

"A story was direct and simple, allowing nothing to come between herself and her reader - no intermediate with their private ambitions or incompetence, no pressures of time, no limits on resources. In a story you only had to wish, you only had to write it down and you could have the world; in a play, you had to make do with what was available: no horses, no village streets, no seaside. No curtain."( Chapter 3 page 35)

I chose this section from Atonement because I could really imagine what Briony was saying in my head. She is really disappointed with how the play turned out and is now regretting the idea because she has to show her brother. She wanted the play to be perfect but nothing seems to be going her way. She now wishes she just wrote a book instead because everything would be in her control. I see lots of similarities between her and Catherine. They are both strong women that are underestimated. They also seem to overthink a lot and thinks everything that could possibly go wrong will. I interested to see if Briony has a similar character development to Catherine. I think getting to see how Briony changes as she grows up will be super interesting. I also really enjoy how we get more details on her family and family life.
