"But it was not so bad as that. Isabella; there was no superciliousness; she was very civil."
"Oh! Don't defend her! And then the brother, he, who had appeared so attached to you! Good heavens! well, some people's feelings are incomprehensible . And so he hardly looked once at you the whole day?"
"I do not say so; he did not seem in good spirits."
"How contemptible! Of all things in the world inconstancy is my aversion. Let me entreat you never to think of him again, my dear Catherine; indeed he is unworthy of you" (page 124)
I chose this passage because I feel like it really shows Isabella's personality. It shows how much she cares about Catherine but also how jealous and controlling she is. I think she has good intentions but she has very strong opinions which makes me think negatively of her. This also shows how Catherine overthinks and worries about everything. I find their friendship dynamic really interesting because they became best friends so quickly but really don't know each other very well. I feel as though Isabella is trying to cover up her jealousy of Catherine becoming close with the Tilney family and trying to show that it doesn't bother her. Even though earlier in the book Isbella did say that it bothered her. Especially since Isabella is going to be marrying Catherine's brother I think this could cause problems in the future. I am interested to see how this whole dynamic develops between Catherine, her brother, and Isabella. Especially since they had the arguement when Catherine did not want to travel with them in the first part of the book. I can't wait to see how Northanger Abbey ends!
