Blog Post 7 One Hundred Years of Solitude

Throughout this first part of the reading of One Hundred Years of Solitude, there was a particular scene/section that has stuck with me.

"The girl thanked him in silence. Her back was raw. Her skin was stuck to her ribs and her breathing was forced because of immeasurable exhaustion. ...she still had ten years of seventy men per night." (Page 52)

This particular part of the reading is just so very raw and painted out for the reader. I had literal chills while continuing down the page. It's so horrible to imagine what this poor girl is suffering through at the hand of her own grandmother. But, aside from the horror, it oddly magnifies Aureliano's strange attraction to young girls? We will see this attraction yet again later with him and Remedios. I wonder if this has any significance throughout the book or if we see a return of the first girl.
