"In March the gypsies returned. This time they brought ta telescope and a magnifying glass the size of a drum, which they exhibited as the latest discovery of the Jews of Amsterdam." (page 2)
When I read this I immediately thought of the Life of Galileo. This made me wonder if these two books took place in the same time period. In the Life of Galileo, Galileo stole the idea of a telescope from Amsterdam and claimed he created it. Then in One Hundred Years of Solitude it talks about how the telescope was brought to their village. If this took place in the same time period I'm also wondering if conflicts may overlap other than the telescope. Will the new idea of the solar system come into play in One Hundred Years of Solitude? Will any events that occur on One Hundred Years of Solitude remind me of something that happens in the Life of Galileo? I am interested to see how One Hundred Years of Solitude develops and if there are any more similarities between these two books.
