Blog Post #5 Life of Galileo

Scene 9: "...Andrea Sarti - a young man now - have gathered..." (Page 66)
Scene 14: "Virginia emerges from the kitchen. She is about forty years old now." (Page 96)

I chose these two opening bits discussing the ages of the characters. I find it so very interesting how the time of this whole play progresses very rapidly skipping through years and a whole decade at one point. Although, it is called "The Life of Galileo" (so I suppose it makes sense). I really enjoyed being able to see the small life changes in each of the other significant characters. For example, Andrea becomes a scholar and Galileo's daughter, Virginia, marries Ludovico. This keeps the pay very interesting and keeps you guessing as to what will happen next. I have never seen this play acted out before but, I'd be very interested in how they create this time progression in live action.
