Virginia: You sent him away, father.
Galileo: I've got to know.
To me this just shows how dedicated Galileo was to his work, obviously he put work towards inventions to make himself money in the past just to get by but now this is his actual work he wants to prove. With a new Pope to be in place in the near future he plans to publish what he was been trying to work towards his entire life and he's not going to let anyone hinder his efforts now even with Ludovico threatening to leave his daughter. He even takes his efforts a step further by publishing his work in simple Italian so everyone can read and possibly understand what the church has tried hiding for all these years.
