Portrayal of the Church (pg 115 - 117)
I found this section super interesting because throughout the play I found the dynamic between Galileo and the church very complex. In this section it talks about how the church was considered an intellectual authority. This made me wonder, if they are considered an intellectual authority then wouldn't they be open to change and new ideas in science? Why was the church so determined to keep Galileo quiet about his ideas? I was also curious about how the play would be acted out in more modern times. How would the dynamic between the church and Galileo be different?
