Blog Post #4 Atonement

Part two and three bring in a very different perspective that I really enjoyed reading. The opening lines to Robbie off at war really bring to light the major effect Briony's lie had on his entire life. All of his life plans were upset by Briony's misinterpretation and young naive mind.
A quote I really liked came from Part Three on page 287. It reads, "From this new and intimate perspective, she learned a simple, obvious thing that she had always known, and everyone knew: that a person is, among all else, a material thing, easily torn, not easily mended."
This quote is showing the realization that Briony has while doing her duty as a nurse with the wounded soldiers. In this moment I believe she realizes her true impact and role she played in the lie she told. She realizes the damage that was done and how truly hard it will be to "fix" the terrible mistake made.
