blog post 6

In my reading I mainly focused on the end of the American version of the play(scene 14). I noticed how greatly they changed this scene and seemed to avoid the aspect of the guards searching Andrea's luggage and more on Andrea trying to show the children that Old Marina is not a witch and they are using prior judgements and not making logical decisions to prove that she is in fact a witch.

Obviously they are children and have an imagination and Andrea being a scholar wants to try to reason with the children to use logic in their decision making on whether or not Old Marina is a witch or not. In the original text there is just one big paragraph of Andrea explaining how someone being a witch is not logical but in the rewrite Andrea seems to want to prove it more for the children to see it rather than just aspects that they may not understand at that point in their life. My biggest question is to why the American version went to change this aspect of the scene, I understand why this may seem minuscule to the whole play but why change the focus from the guards to the children and proving whether Old Marina is actually a witch or not?
